2025 DRG tariffs published in France

On April 9, 2025, the Ministry of Labor, Health, Solidarity and Families published the Order setting DRG tariffs and tariffs for other packages and supplements for 2025. New tariffs are applicable from March 1, 2025.

EU HTA Publication Digest: Avoiding Error and Finding the Right Balance in European Health Technology Assessments: Insights Generated by the European Access Academy

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its EU HTA Publications Digest. In a recent publication, Julian et al. investigated how EU stakeholders perceive key challenges in implementing EU Regulation 2021/2282 on Health Technology Assessment. Drawing on survey data and structured discussions at the 2024 European Access Academy, the authors found that 65.5 % of respondents reported insufficient expert involvement in joint assessments, only 37.9 % anticipated faster national decision-making, and views on conflict-of-interest transparency were mixed. Stakeholders prioritized earlier and broader expert engagement, stronger EMA–EU HTA coordination, and increased national-level support.

The decision regarding new CCAM procedure codes published in France

On April 8, 2025, the National Union of Health Insurance Funds issued an update to the Common Classification of Medical Procedures (CCAM), which serves as a reimbursement nomenclature for medical procedures in hospital and ambulatory settings. Changes include the introduction of new procedure codes, provisional registration of several procedure codes, and modification of existing services. Newly introduced procedure codes concern cardiovascular and peripheral vascular procedures, interventional radiology, ENT, and others. The update takes effect on July 1, 2025.

Sustainability Publication Digest: Greenhouse gas emissions due to inhalation anaesthetics in the Netherlands, usage data and a survey of preferences among Dutch anaesthesiologists

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Sustainability Publications Digest. In a recent publication, Friedericy et al. assessed the environmental footprint of inhalation anaesthetics in Dutch hospitals and surveyed anaesthesiologists on practice patterns. A comprehensive 2019 bottom-up evaluation of anaesthetic agent procurement across the Netherlands was conducted. The analysis revealed relatively low greenhouse gas emissions, largely due to the widespread preference for intravenous anaesthesia and the limited use of inhalation-based techniques.

2025/26 NHS Payment Scheme released in England

On April 4, 2025, NHS England published the final NHS Payment Scheme (NHSPS) for the 2025/26 financial year (starting on April 1st), defining payment mechanisms for the provision of NHS-funded hospital and ambulatory care and some public health services. No significant changes were made to the general payment model. The key changes include the introduction of reimbursement for activities from Community Diagnostic Centres and a new Best Practice Tariff to incentivize shifting suitable procedures from day case/hospital to outpatient settings.

The revised EBM catalog for the second quarter of 2025 published in Germany

On April 1, 2025, the revised EBM (German Uniform Evaluation Standard) catalog for the second quarter of 2025 came into force. The main changes introduced concern updates of the contents (services legends, preambles of several EBM subchapters) and the introduction of new EBM codes related to follow-up and evaluation of another reimbursable health app and second-opinion consultations.

In a recent publication, Polmear et al. examined the growing application of Bayesian statistical methods in orthopedic research, highlighting their advantages over traditional P value-based approaches. The authors emphasized how Bayesian analysis can offer more nuanced interpretations in clinical contexts. Through practical examples ‒ such as diagnostic decision-making in prosthetic joint infection and comparative analysis from the orthopedic trial ‒ the review illustrated key Bayesian concepts and offered guidance for critically evaluating such studies.
