In February 2023, it was announced that fifty-seven new procedure codes were introduced by the Code Service of the Finnish National Health and Wellbeing Institution (THL). These codes are valid from January 2023. The introduced codes are dedicated to radiology, diagnostic imaging, gastrointestinal, interventional radiology, and some other fields. Read more

On December 19, 2022, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) issued a draft release of the DRG package for 2024, including new procedure codes, new diagnosis codes, and several new DRGs. These changes concern pulmonary, gynecology, ENT, orthopedics, and other technology groups. Read more

In September 2022, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (Zorginstituut Nederland, ZIN) announced three more projects which received a subsidy under the "Subsidy scheme for promising care" in 2022 for research of PET/CT scan instead of CT scan for post-screening in lung cancer, treatment for head and neck cancer that spares lymph nodes in the neck and surgery to prevent lymphedema after cancer treatment. In total, eight projects will receive a subsidy in 2022. Read more

In Q1 of 2022, Health Technology Wales (HTW) published one MedTech-related guidance on transcranial magnetic stimulation in depression treatment. A total of eleven Topic Exploration Reports (TERs) were released in Q1. Based on the TERs conclusions, HTW's Assessment Group decided to proceed with developing an Evidence Appraisal Report (EAR) and Guidance on one topic only - radiofrequency renal denervation for the treatment of resistant hypertension. The revised EBM (German Uniform Evaluation Standard) catalog came into force on April 1, 2022. The most significant changes concern the introduction of new additional flat rates for the observation and care of patients who are given certain medications, adjustment of EBM reproductive medicine definitions, and inclusion of several new codes for PET and PET/CT. In July 2021, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published one new Interventional Procedure Guidance (inducing and maintaining normothermia using temperature modulation devices to improve outcomes after stroke or subarachnoid hemorrhage) and four new Medtech Innovation Briefings (HealthVCF for detecting vertebral compression fractures on CT scans, trublood-prostate for triaging and diagnosing people with prostate cancer symptoms, AI technologies for detecting diabetic retinopathy, and Acumen IQ sensor for predicting hypotension risk). The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is currently developing health technology assessments concerning eHealth technologies in its Medical Technologies Guidance, Diagnostic Guidance, and Medtech Innovation Briefing programs. As of late April 2021, there are thirteen ongoing assessments. Read more

On January 26, 2021, NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative published the MedTech Funding Mandate policy for 2021/22, which will come into force in April 2021. According to the NHS Long Term Plan, introducing a MedTech Funding Mandate will support getting innovative medical devices, diagnostics, and digital products to patients faster. Four technologies will be supported in 2021/22 - HeartFlow FFRCT, gammaCore, SecurAcath, and PIGF-based testing. Read more

The Austrian Institute for Health Technology Assessment (AIHTA) completed a research project, “Lung cancer screening in risk groups: Systematic reviews of effectiveness and utility (part 1) and costs and budgetary consequences (part 2),” and published the reports in the mid of December 2020. The Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) investigated the extent to which evidence is available for the benefit and harm of non-invasive computed tomography angiography (CTA) and stress diagnostics using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in people with suspected coronary heart disease (CAD) using evidence mapping.
