Changes in the OPCS procedure coding classification to take effect in April 2026 in England

In November 2025, NHS England released a final summary of core changes between OPCS-4.10 and OPCS-4.11, a procedure coding classification updated every three years. Multiple changes were implemented, including 572 new four-character (subcategory) codes in various fields, such as cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, gastroenterology, urology and nephrology, obstetrics and gynecology, men’s health, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology, orthopedics, spine, interventional radiology, and radiotherapy. OPCS-4.11 is expected to take effect on April 1, 2026.

Two thematic horizon scans in the cancer field were launched in Sweden

In October 2025, the Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) launched two new thematic horizon scans focusing on cancer care. The scans aim to identify innovative medical technologies that may be evaluated within the national Orderly introduction framework for medical technologies. Stakeholders, including industry representatives, are invited to submit proposals by November 30, 2025.

Applications for Medical Specialist Care and Research program are now open in the Netherlands

In September-October 2025, the Dutch Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) opened the submission of applications for another two rounds of the Medical Specialist Care and Research (MedZO) program. The applications deadline for “Line 1: Appropriate and efficient care - Round 2” is December 2, 2025; for “Preparatory implementation activities Round 2 - specialist medical care” - December 9, 2025.

October 2025 Med Tech-related health technology assessments from the NIHR in England

In October 2025, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released four Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned tumor profiling tests in early breast cancer, remote monitoring of heart failure in people with cardiac implantable electronic devices, microstructural scaffolds in symptomatic defects of the knee, as well as rapid tests for antifungal stewardship in the ICU.

October 2025 recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations on the registration of medical devices and medical aids in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR) following the October 2025 meetings of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). Seven favourable opinions were issued concerning add-on reimbursement for medical devices in the neuromodulation and interventional radiology fields.

Med Tech-related technology assessments from NICE in October 2025

In October 2025, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published one new Early Value Assessment on AI technologies for the detection of vertebral fragility fractures and two new Interventional Procedures Guidances on venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in refractory cardiac arrest and severe acute heart failure.

National development projects for precision diagnostics of solid tumors in Sweden

On October 20, 2025, Genomic Medicine Sweden (GMS) announced the launch of five strategic development projects aimed at extending access to advanced diagnostics nationwide. The projects will focus on updating national GMS gene panel (big NGS panel for solid tumors), liquid biopsies, cell-free tumor DNA (ctDNA) for diagnosis and follow-up of metastatic breast cancer, gene panels for hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancer, and improving diagnosis of sarcoma.
