Regular update of the Norwegian Laboratory Code System released
On November 23, 2025, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system (Norsk laboratoriekodeverk, v.78) and associated tariffs (Laboratoriekodeverk som gir rett til refusjon) for state and private laboratories to be implemented no later than January 1, 2026. The NLK system is used for activity-based reimbursement by the Norwegian Health Economics Administration (Helfo) for laboratory tests performed in outpatient settings.
A total of 42 new codes were added, 159 codes were changed, and 2 codes were removed.
Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:
- NOR35371 Trc-Aggregation adrenaline-induced (low conc.) %
- NOR35372 Trc-Aggregation adrenaline-induced (high conc.) %
- NPU04132 P-UIBC (Unsaturated Iron-Binding Capacity);
- NPU18186 Trc-ATP-release thrombin-induced;
- NPU62884 Us-Scopulariopsis brevicaulis DNA;
- NPU63304 P-Rickettsia conorii IgG;
- NPU12421 P-Herpes simplex 1+2 virus DNA;
- NOR35358 P-Valproate, free/total %
- NPU63327 DNA-DPYD gene (NG_008807.2:g.476002G>A).
The letters at the beginning of the code description stand for sample type: P - plasma, Trc – thrombocytes, Us - unspecified sample.
