New procedure codes in Finland from November 2023

On November 1, 2023, thirteen new procedure codes came into force in the updated Finnish classification of procedures (Code Service of the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, THL). The introduced codes concerned diagnostic imaging, radiology, neurology, peripheral vascular, and some other fields. Some examples of new codes are listed below:

  • GD1QQ SPET-CT of lung perfusion and ventilation;
  • FM2AE Ultrasound of the systolic function of the heart;
  • AA5DT Ultrasound coagulation of brain tissue under MR guidance;
  • PH2AT Dilatation of lower extremity vein.

The 2025 version of the Swiss CHOP code nomenclature published

On October 31, 2024, the Swiss Federal Statistics Office (UFS) released the systematic version of the procedure code (CHOP) nomenclature for 2025. The nomenclature is now available in German, Italian, and French languages and will come into force on January 1, 2025. Multiple new procedure codes were introduced in various fields, including endoscopy, extracorporeal treatments, in-vitro diagnostics, interventional radiology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, and radiotherapy.

The final version of the 2025 OPS procedure coding classification released in Germany

On October 24, 2024, the BfArM (Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices) published the final version of the 2025 OPS procedure coding classification. The OPS, together with the ICD-10-GM (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision, German Modification), forms the basis for the reimbursement systems in outpatient and inpatient care in Germany. Multiple new procedure codes were introduced in several fields, including cardiovascular, endoscopic, peripheral vascular, and robotic surgery.

Med Tech-related health technology assessments from NIHR in October 2024

In October 2024, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released seven Med Tech-related assessments in its HTA Journal, which concerned the Genedrive kit, timing of stoma closure in neonates, interventions in perceptual disorders after stroke, revascularisation strategy for chronic limb ischemia, MRI software and cognitive fusion biopsies in prostate cancer, transperineal prostate biopsy devices, and ultraviolet therapy in severe eczema. HTA Journal publishes research reports on the effectiveness, costs, and broader impact of health technologies for those who use, manage, and provide care in the NHS and informs NICE guidance.
