Comparison report of Finnish Digi-HTA and French PECAN assessment criteria

In October 2024, the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment released a report aiming to summarize the results of the comparative analysis of Finnish Digi-HTA and French Early coverage of digital medical devices framework (PECAN) assessment criteria. The analysis focuses on the frameworks' general aspects and the cybersecurity requirements.

New procedure codes in Finland from January 2025

In September 2024, the Finnish classification of procedures (THL) was updated two times. On September 6, 2024, seven new procedure codes concerning mental health and dental procedures were introduced. On September 11, 2024, forty new procedure codes concerning gastrointestinal, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical procedures, and some other fields were introduced. The codes will come into force on January 1, 2025.

On July 9, 2024, the updated Finnish classification of procedures (THL) was published to come into force on August 1, 2024. Forty-three new procedure codes were implemented concerning diagnostic imaging, nuclear medicine, neurovascular, radiology, and other fields.

Laboratory test nomenclature updated in Finland

On April 18, 2024, the updated version of the Finnish Laboratory Tests Nomenclature was published by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) to come into force on May 1, 2024. A total of four new codes were introduced in the in-vitro diagnostic field.

On January 1, 2024, the annual update of the Finnish NordDRG system came into force. A total of 63 new DRGs were introduced concerning men’s health, nephrology and urology, neurology, neuromodulation, obstetrics and gynecology, surgical procedures, and other fields.

Laboratory test nomenclature updated in Finland

On December 18, 2023, the updated version of the laboratory test nomenclature was published by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) to come into force on January 1, 2024. Sixty new codes were introduced concerning in-vitro diagnostics and functional diagnostic tests in the cardiology, pulmonology, and gastroenterology fields.

Two HTAs on robotic devices released in Finland

In October 2023, the FinCCHTA published on its website a Digi-HTA assessment aiming to evaluate Lokomat robot-assisted walking rehabilitation device, as well as Indego – Exoskeleton robot-assisted walking device. The products received a total score of 08 (out of 10), which means the quality but insufficiency of available evidence and safety data. The cost of using the products could be high. There could be minor deficiencies in data security and protection or usability and accessibility.

Finnish HTA reports on eHealth released in April 2023

In April 2023, the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment (FinCCHTA) released three health technology assessments in the field of eHealth, including the assessment of Thermidas thermal imaging system as well as two comparison reports of Digi-HTA with NorDEC and DiGAV frameworks.
