New Digital Health Commission in Spain

On June 30, 2021, the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System has agreed to create the Digital Health Commission aiming to contribute to co-governance with the Autonomous Communities in this matter. The draft "Digital Health Strategy", prepared by the General Secretariat for Digital Health, Information, and Innovation, has been presented to open a process of consultation and observations.

Approval of TARDOC outpatient tariff structure postponed in Switzerland

On June 30, 2021, the Swiss Federal Council announced that the TARDOC outpatient tariff structure, presented by the association of insurers curafutura and the Swiss Medical Association (FMH), cannot be approved at this point. The Federal Council found the TARDOC tariff structure to have many drawbacks. Curafutura released an announcement in which they state that they will continue working on the TARDOC tariff structure and will try to implement as many changes as possible, according to the FOPH recommendations. This means that the TARDOC tariff structure is not likely to be implemented before January 2023.

Real-time continuous glucose monitoring to be included in the Common Package of Benefits in Spain

On June 30, 2021, the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System has approved the inclusion of real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rt-CGM) systems in the Common Package of Benefits for adult patients meeting certain criteria. The inclusion of rt-CGM devices in the Common Package of Benefits means that these devices are now guaranteed to the defined population nationwide.

On June 24, 2021, the list of awarded PHRC and PRME projects, submitted in 2020, was published. A total of 137 PHRC and nine PRME projects were awarded, and they concern various technology groups, such as gynecology, nephrology, neurology, cardiovascular, etc.

MedTech-related health technology assessments from NIHR in June 2021

In June 2021, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in England released six MedTech-related reports in its Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Journal, which concerned tibial nerve stimulation for urinary incontinence treatment, imaging in ophthalmology, in-vitro diagnostics, and eHealth. HTA Journal publishes research reports on the effectiveness, costs, and broader impact of health technologies for those who use, manage, and provide care in the NHS, and informs National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.

Recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France in June 2021

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS) in June 2021. Recommendations concern cardiovascular and peripheral vascular devices, orthopedic devices, liquid for embolization, and medical aids.

New standards of medical care and clinical guidelines published in Russia in June 2021

In June 2021, twelve clinical guidelines were released in Russia: perforated ulcer, bronchial asthma, multiple pregnancy, and others. Furthermore, the orders on the approval of the several standards of medical care entered into force, including standards for the provision of medical care for adults with ischemic heart disease, atrial fibrillation and flutter, and pulmonary hypertension, including chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
