Publication Digest: Patient Engagement and Patient Experience Data in Regulatory Review and Health Technology Assessment: Where Are We Today?

In a recent publication, Bertelsen et al. conducted a comprehensive landscape review of patient engagement (PE) and patient experience data (PED) use in regulatory and HTA decision-making worldwide. Comparing 2023 outputs with a previous 17-month period, the authors observed a substantial expansion in references to combined PE + PED initiatives, highlighting a global acceleration in patient-centered policy development. The study also identified persistent gaps and emphasized the need for clear guidance to ensure consistent and meaningful incorporation of patient insights across jurisdictions.
