Health Economic Publication Digest: Priority Measures at the intersection of clinical practice, health economics and health policy: an ESC pilot to support implementation of recommendations

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Health Economic Publications Digest. 

In a recent publication, Timmermans et al. presented a European Society of Cardiology (ESC) pilot framework designed to integrate economic and implementation considerations alongside traditional efficacy metrics for decision-making. Using the 2021/2023 ESC heart failure guidelines as a case study, the authors considered five-year numbers needed to treat as a measure of clinical effectiveness and incorporated a Delphi-based assessment of implementation complexity. This proposed framework aims to bridge the gap between the guidelines' focus on treatment efficacy and the practical need for prioritization in implementation and healthcare planning.
