Funding for AI Life Sciences Accelerator Mission in the UK

In late October 2023, the UK Government announced £100 million funding for the “AI Life Sciences Accelerator Mission”. The Mission will advance and expand the use of AI in life sciences and tackle the country’s major health challenges outlined by Life Sciences Vision.

Reduction of reimbursement for the clinical laboratory by 15% in Belgium

In November 2023, the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI-RIZIV) announced the budget reduction for reimbursement of clinical laboratory services by 15% from January 2024. INAMI-RIZIV considers this reimbursement still sufficient and will reallocate released funds to other projects in health care. The reduction will not impact molecular biological and genetic testing.

MTRC released an analytical White Paper with a summary of market access for medical technologies in EU5 countries

Market access for medical technologies is a challenging field. It includes co-existing frameworks of reimbursement (coding, payment mechanism tariffs), funding (post-reimbursement approval by payers) and health technology assessment (HTA). MTRC developed an analytical White Paper with a summary of key market access considerations in the largest European countries (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain), including an overview of stakeholders, payment mechanisms, innovative payment schemes, funding, and the role of HTA.

Launch of the nationwide telemedicine solution for COPD in Denmark

In November 2023, the Danish Regions announced the launch of a national telemedicine solution for patients with severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The telemedicine platform Telma, developed by regions and municipalities, comprises a software application for patients connected to devices measuring patients' clinical parameters (such as blood oxygen), which clinicians then assess remotely.

On November 07, 2023, the Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) accomplished its work on health economic assessments of Intellis and WaveWriter Alpha – spinal cord stimulation systems used for the treatment of long-term, intractable pain. Overall, TLV assesses that the results uncertainty level is high.

The guidelines described can be equally useful for HTA agencies, researchers, and developers of DHT, decision-makers, and regulators.
