Publication Digest: Selection and Prioritization of Medical Devices for HTA Evaluation: A Systematic Review of Existing Approaches

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Publications Digest. 

In a recent publication, Pimenta et al. systematically reviewed approaches for selecting and prioritizing medical devices for health technology assessment (HTA). The analysis of 51 studies showed that most relied on multicriteria decision analysis to structure value assessment. Commonly applied attributes were clinical efficacy/effectiveness (95%), disease impact (59%), and ethical, social, and legal aspects (50%). The authors concluded that a generally accepted approach for prioritizing medical devices for HTA is still lacking.
