Med Tech-related technology assessments from NICE in December 2025
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) develops Interventional Procedures Guidance (IPG) for most novel interventional procedures entering the English market. The program focuses solely on clinical evidence. Recommendations may vary from "for research only" to "for use with standard arrangements for clinical governance, consent, and audit." Recommendations are not binding, although they are followed by providers and commissioners.
In December 2025, NICE released one new IPG on Venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA ECMO) for postcardiotomy cardiogenic shock in adults, concluding that the procedure can be used in the NHS during the evidence generation period.
Health Technology Evaluations (HTEs) using the Early Value Assessment (EVA) provides rapid conditional recommendations on promising health technologies with the potential to address unmet national needs. NICE evaluates the available evidence to determine if earlier patient and system access in the NHS is appropriate while further evidence is generated.
In December 2025, NICE published one new EVA on Digital platforms to support cardiac rehabilitation and concluded that seven digital technologies can be used in the NHS during the evidence generation period as options to support cardiac rehabilitation for adults with cardiovascular disease: Activate Your Heart, D REACH-HF, Digital Heart Manual, Gro Health HeartBuddy, KiActiv, myHeart, Pumping Marvellous Cardiac Rehab Platform. More research is needed on five digital technologies to support cardiac rehabilitation for adults with cardiovascular disease before they can be funded by the NHS: Beat Better, Datos Health - AI Driven Hybrid Care Platform, Get Ready - Solution, Luscii Vitals, R Plus Health.
