Health Economic Publication Digest: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Financial Systems in Healthcare: A Systematic Review of Economic Evaluation Studies

In a recent publication, Kakatum Rao et al. systematically reviewed economic evaluations of AI in healthcare to assess its financial impact. Across six included studies, AI applications demonstrated potential for substantial savings, including the avoidance of 45,247 unnecessary diagnostic tests in 45 days and reductions in Medicaid expenditures of up to USD 12.9 million annually. The authors identified major methodological gaps, including unclear perspectives, absent sensitivity analyses, and limited consideration of ethical implications, and called for standardized frameworks to strengthen future economic assessments.
