Health Economic Publication Digest: Cost Consequence Analysis of Clinician-Friendly Interpretable Computer-Aided Diagnosis (ICADX) Tested in Cardiology, Obstetrics, and Gastroenterology, from the HosmartAI Horizon 2020 Project

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Health Economic Publications Digest. 

In a recent publication, Chatzikou et al. assessed the economic impact of AI-driven diagnostic systems developed within the EU-funded HosmartAI project, focusing on cardiology, obstetrics, and gastroenterology. Using a cost-consequence analysis framework, the authors found that AI technologies for preterm birth detection and coronary CT angiography were cost-saving. In contrast, those for echocardiography and capsule endoscopy increased costs modestly but improved diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency, and clinician satisfaction. The study highlights the importance of standardized economic assessment methods to guide future adoption and reimbursement of AI solutions in healthcare.
