The G-BA Innovation Committee published funding priorities in Germany
On June 20, 2025, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the determined funding priorities for healthcare research projects (seven topics) and clinical guidelines (three topics).
The following funding priorities were defined for healthcare research projects:
- Analysis and development of interventions for the primary prevention of non-communicable diseases in general practice as well as pediatric and adolescent medical settings;
- Promoting transplant medical care – analyzing the identification and reporting of potential post-mortem organ donors in hospitals and deriving recommendations for action;
- Healthcare services research for the development and testing of a nationwide “Never Event” register as an error reporting and learning system;
- Care of patients with post-viral symptom complexes such as Post-/Long-COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS);
- Healthcare provision for people in need of care from a regional perspective;
- Healthcare services research to improve the care of people with ophthalmological diseases;
- Scientific evaluation of blanket prescriptions: treatment standards and quality of care in providing therapeutic products.
Applications for project funding that cannot be assigned to any of the thematic areas may be submitted under the open-topic funding announcement.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 21, 2025, at noon.
The funding priorities for clinical guidelines include the following:
- Development or further development of overarching guidelines for common consultation reasons, as well as consolidation of guidelines during updates or further development;
- Development or further development of guidelines with a particular focus on creating tools and formats to support dissemination/implementation, considering the information needs of different target groups;
- Development or further development of guidelines for initial care by non-physician medical professionals and structured triage for managing patients in emergency and acute care.
The deadline for submitting applications is September 23, 2025, at noon.
Applications can only be submitted in electronic form via the internet portal of the project sponsor responsible for handling the funding measures, the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR). The project management agency DLR offered an information event for those interested in funding. The focus was on the application requirements. The approximately one-hour web seminar took place on July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Registration was not required.
