2026 DRG tariff system guide published in Denmark
In December 2025, the Danish Health Data Authority (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen) published the DRG tariff system (Takstsystem) guide, which provides an overall description of billing rules, tariffs, and grouping logic for 2026.
The tariff calculation for 2026 is based on costs and activity for the years 2023 and 2024. In 2026, the surcharge for each bed day exceeding the DRG trim point (maximum length of stay defined for each DRG) is 2,469 DKK.
Following the Health reform, the proximity financing scheme will cease from 2026. The basic principle of the proximity financing scheme was that part of the regions' financing was conditional on the fulfillment of a number of criteria for increased coherence and transition (e.g., reduction in hospital activity for citizens with chronic diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or diabetes).
There are 916 DRGs in the 2026 DRG system, compared to 941 DRGs in 2025. Among other changes, 17 new DRGs were introduced, of which one DRG is completely new, and 16 DRGs were added due to the merging of multiple DRGs into these new groups. Some examples of the new DRGs are provided below:
- 11MP16 Operations on the bladder through the urethra, with cytostatics or blue light;
- 14MP03 Complicated pregnancy or maternal medical condition, with emergency cesarean section;
- 23MA08 Investigation, functional disorder.
