Assessment of spinal cord stimulation devices in Sweden

The Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) is currently conducting several health economic assessments of products for electrical spinal cord stimulation for certain severe pain conditions when other methods do not provide the required effect or cause unacceptable side effects.

The assessments were commissioned by the Medical Technology Product (MTP) Council as the first step of the national Orderly Introduction process for new MedTech products. This framework is a staged process, including horizon scanning, selection of the method for evaluation, the decision on national collaboration, health economic evaluation by the TLV, and recommendations by the MTP Council to regions.

The assessments are planned to be accomplished during 2023.
