The 2026 Norwegian procedure coding system (NKPK) released

In October 2025, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released the Norwegian Clinical Procedure Coding (NKPK) system for 2026. The coding system consists of three parts: NCMP for medical procedures, NCSP for surgical procedures, and NCRP for radiological procedures. 

A total of 16 new codes were introduced (to come into force on January 1, 2026) concerning cardiovascular, interventional radiology, pulmonology, gynecology, radiology, and endoscopy fields. Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:

  • FGK72A Percutaneous transluminal insertion of tricuspid implant;
  • JJA46 Percutaneous destruction of liver lesions;
  • JAL27 Laparoscopic excision of lesions in the rectovaginal septum;
  • WMGX10 Anatomical modeling for planning procedures (Note: 3D printing of anatomical structures and jigs).

Furthermore, 34 codes were changed, and 43 codes were discontinued.
