Regular update of the Norwegian Laboratory Code System was released

On March 23, 2026, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system (Norsk laboratoriekodeverk, v.79) and associated tariffs (Laboratoriekodeverk som gir rett til refusjon) for state and private laboratories to be implemented no later than May 1, 2026. The NLK system is used for activity-based reimbursement by the Norwegian Health Economics Administration (Helfo) for laboratory tests performed in outpatient settings.

A total of 63 new codes were added, 73 codes were changed, and 15 codes were removed.

Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:

  • NPU63530 ctDNA(P)-KRAS gene (NG_007524.2:g.10654G>A);
  • NPU63430 P-MMA (Methylmalonic acid, adjusted);
  • NPU54320 DNA-ACKR1 gene (NG_011626.1:g.5174);
  • NPU58711 P-Mitochondrial (M2) IgG;
  • NPU63483 B-CAR T-cells (BCMA-directed);
  • NPU63499 P-IgE allergen-specific antibodies (list).

The letters at the beginning of the code description stand for sample type: P – plasma, B - blood
