2028 DRG applications are now accepted in Denmark

In April 2026, the Danish Health Data Authority (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen) opened the application period for modifications to the DRG logic, set to take effect on January 1, 2028.

Applications must be completed using the designated forms available on the Danish Health Data Authority's website and submitted via email to kliniskvalidering@sundhedsdata.dk. Separate application forms are required to propose a new DRG or modify/remove an existing one.

The submission deadline is October 30, 2026.

2026/27 NHS Payment Scheme released in England

On March 26, 2026, NHS England published the final version of the 2026/27 NHS Payment Scheme, effective from April 1, 2026. While the overall payment model remains largely unchanged, several targeted updates have been introduced. These include new blended payments for urgent and emergency care, radiotherapy, and genomic testing, as well as two new Best Practice Tariffs (BPTs) to incentivize day case procedures and support 10 Year Health Plan referral-to-treatment (RTT) priorities.

A regular update of the Danish SKS coding system from April 2026

The Danish Health Data Authority quarterly updates the Health Care Classification System (SKS). The latest version was published in mid-March 2026 to come into force on April 1, 2026. Among other changes, 32 new procedure codes concerning extracorporeal treatments, interventional radiology, ICU/OR, ophthalmology, pulmonary and airways, surgical procedures, and some other fields were introduced.

In February 2026, the Danish Healthcare Quality Institute (DHQI) released a document outlining the criteria for “triaging” clinical guideline recommendations to health economic analysis. The criteria aim to identify recommendations with potentially significant clinical and resource implications that should undergo health economic evaluation and be considered by the DHQI Council for possible nationwide implementation.
