Sustainability Publication Digest: Integrating environmental sustainability into health technology assessment: an international survey of HTA stakeholders

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Sustainability Publications Digest. 

In a recent publication, Davies et al. systematically reviewed implementation approaches to improve environmental sustainability in operating theatres. Across 11 studies, all in early or exploratory phases, only three applied recognized implementation theories or frameworks, while four studies used interprofessional education to influence behavior (e.g., reducing waste, improving segregation, or lowering anesthetic gas use). Although these interventions achieved short-term environmental improvements, there was little evidence of sustained effects or follow-up, highlighting a persistent gap between proposed solutions and their routine uptake in clinical practice.
