Consultation on HPV self-sampling option for cervical cancer screening in the UK
On December 4, 2024, the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) launched a consultation on whether to offer human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling option to under-screened people in the cervical cancer screening program alongside traditional clinician-collected sampling by a nurse or doctor.
The following new recommendation is proposed by the UK NSC:
- Self-sampling for HPV testing should be offered to under-screened people eligible for the NHS Cervical Screening Programme in the 4 UK countries, where service commissioners think self-sampling would be a helpful addition to the program.
Any individual or organization can participate in the consultation and provide their views on:
- Self-sampling in under-screened people as a strategy to improve participation in cervical screening;
- The quality and accuracy of the supporting documents and evidence;
- Whether the recommendation is consistent with the evidence presented;
- The feasibility of the recommendation.
The deadline for comments submission is February 26, 2025.
