Two more health apps obtained reimbursement in Germany

Between late May and early September 2023, two more health apps were introduced in the Directory of digital health applications (DiGAs) at the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and thus became reimbursable. These apps can be prescribed by physicians and psychotherapists and will be reimbursed by health insurers. In total, 49 health apps are currently available in the DiGA Directory, and six health apps were delisted from the Directory.

On July 14, 2023, the “mebix” health app was introduced in the Directory. “mebix”, developed by Vision2B GmbH, Germany, offers patients with type 2 diabetes tertiary preventive measures to reduce the risk of acute health complications. It also supports the effectiveness of the therapy specified by the physician (therapy support). The app is available in German with a tariff of €499.

The health app “Orthopy bei Knieverletzungen” (Orthopy Health GmbH, Germany) was introduced on September 9, 2023, and was developed for patients with an anterior cruciate ligament tear and/or meniscus damage. The Orthopy app accompanies patients before, during, and after orthopedic treatment. The app provides understandable knowledge articles, physiotherapeutic training plans for home training, exercises based on guidelines, and the presentation of visible therapy progress as a motivational aid. The app is available in German with a tariff of €487.84.
