In October 2024, the annual update of the Swedish procedure coding system (Classification of Health Care Measures, KVÅ) was released to come into force on January 1, 2025. A total of 55 new surgical procedure codes and 43 new medical procedure codes were introduced concerning diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, ENT, men’s health, nephrology and urology, gynecology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and some other areas.

This can help our existing and prospective clients to better understand the potential scope of our support. From the week of November 4th, we are planning to work on 14 projects. On October 14, 2024, the Institute for the Hospital Remuneration System (InEK) published the DRG catalog (Fallpauschalen-Katalog) with the list of DRGs and additional reimbursement categories (ZEs) for 2025. Three new DRGs were introduced in the endoscopy and ophthalmology fields.

On October 10, 2024, the Clinical Coding and Schedule Development (CCSD) working group, which develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclatures for private payers in England, published Bulletins 198 and 094 with changes to be implemented no later than December 5, 2024. Fifty-two new procedure codes related to ENT, gastrointestinal, men’s health, urology, neurology and neurosurgery, gynecology, orthopedics, robotic surgery, and surgical procedures areas, and two new diagnostic codes were introduced.

On October 01, 2024, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) published the second release of the 2025 DRG package (RZ25b), which implemented a new procedure code for supporting joint decision-making in outpatient specialist care and supplementary payment proactive planning of palliative care.

In October 2024, the Finnish Coordinating Center for Health Technology Assessment released a report aiming to summarize the results of the comparative analysis of Finnish Digi-HTA and French Early coverage of digital medical devices framework (PECAN) assessment criteria. The analysis focuses on the frameworks' general aspects and the cybersecurity requirements.

In Q3 2024, Health Technology Wales completed three full appraisals with the publication of Evidence Appraisal Report and Guidance (AI for whole slide prostate biopsy images, AI-assisted endoscopy for gastrointestinal cancer, and Floseal in the treatment of epistaxis). Furthermore, 24 Med Tech-related Topic Exploration Reports were published concerning cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, gynecology, e-health, in-vitro diagnostics, and other areas.

At the beginning of October 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Solidarity published the amounts awarded for the Health Economic Research Program (PRME) projects submitted in 2023 and selected for funding.

On October 01, 2024, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) published the second release of the 2025 DRG package (RZ25b). Three new procedure codes, four new supplementary payments (OZPs), 18 new diagnosis codes, and two new DRGs will be implemented across gastroenterology, surgery, diagnostic imaging, molecular diagnostics, and other areas.

In September 2024, it was announced by the Danish Regions that according to the budget agreements for 2025, all regions have prioritized money to strengthen the local healthcare system (primary care) and ensure a robust hospital system and a continued high level of activity.

On October 1, 2024, the revised EBM (German Uniform Evaluation Standard) catalog for the fourth quarter of 2024 was published. The changes introduced mainly concerned updates of the contents (services legends, preambles of the several EBM subchapters). The newly introduced EBM codes relate to the co-funded study on cold plasma treatment for chronic wounds.
