Reminder about deadline for submission of proposal for DRG change in Denmark

The deadline for submission of proposals for DRG change for the year 2019 to the Danish National Board of Health (Sundhedsdatastyrelsen) is November 1, 2017. Different stakeholders can submit a proposal. However, hospitals and individual physicians are the most relevant applicants. Application form for DRG change in Denmark is much simplier compared to other countries.

Changes in DRG grouping logic can involve:

    • Grouping of new procedure codes

    • Decommissioning / creation of new DRGs

    • Creation of gray zone DRGs (which are valid for both hospital and ambulatory settings)

    • Changes to the current inappropriate grouping

Creation of new hospital or ambulatory DRG requires specific procedure coding (SKS). SKS classification is updated quarterly (January 1, April 1, July 1, October 1). Request for creation of new or change of existing code must be submitted to the Danish Health Data Agency no later than two months before the quarterly update.
