New procedure for proposals for screening programs in Denmark

The purpose of the national screening programs is to offer a test that can identify those persons whose risk of developing or developing a particular disease is so high that they should receive an offer for relevant prevention, examination or treatment.

When national screening programs are to be evaluated, relative to whether they are to be introduced, it depends on whether the overall benefits of the program outweigh the disadvantages.

Concrete proposals to the Danish National Board of Health must come from professional companies, organizations and healthcare organizations. Several actors may agree to make proposals and cooperation with regions, municipalities and other actors will also be possible.

The deadline for submitting proposals for new national screening programs to be assessed in 2019 is February 1, 2019. After the application deadline, the National Board of Health and Welfare will review the proposals received and, if necessary, obtain additional information from the proposers. Proposals with a sufficiently detailed form will be presented to the National Board of Health Advisory Committee for National Screening Programs at a meeting on March 19, 2019. The submitted proposals must comply with a set of established criteria.
