New procedure and diagnostic codes added to the private reimbursement schedule in England

In October 2023, the Clinical Coding and Schedule Development (CCSD) working group, which develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclatures for private payers in England, published Bulletins 192 and 088 with changes to be implemented no later than December 7, 2023.

Eight new procedure codes concerning concerning endoscopy, gastrointestinal, interventional radiology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and men's health fields were introduced. Some examples of newly added codes are provided below:

  • J3700 Endoscopic ultrasound-guided gallbladder drainage;
  • G6501 Cytosponge for detecting abnormal cells in the oesophagus;
  • M6710 Focal cryotherapy/cryoablation of prostate.

Three in-vitro diagnostic tests were added to the diagnostic nomenclature.
