Launch of the Health Technology Navigation Pathway Tool for innovators in England
In late April, NHS Accelerated Access Collaborative introduced the Health Technology Navigation Pathway Tool to help innovators adopt new technologies into the NHS. This Tool has been co-developed with multiple stakeholders, including government, NHS bodies, patient groups, and industry.
The innovation journey is divided into 25 steps themed around five key stages of the product lifecycle: creation, development, evidence, regulation, commissioning, and adoption. Each step includes a schematic flowchart of milestones, key organizations, timelines, policies, guidelines, to-do lists, and other relevant issues innovators need to be aware of.
Thus, the Tool helps to get a deeper understanding of the following:
- Steps and activities that are mandatory and optional at each stage;
- When these steps and activities should be conducted;
- The external guidance available at each stage and where to find it;
- The stakeholders involved at each point through the pathway;
- Best practices/tips to help navigate the pathway.
The flowchart mainly considers medical devices and diagnostics but also applies to digital health technologies.
