Reimbursement summary for angioplasty of arteries of lower extremities

Dutch Healthcare Authority published the first release of the DRG package for 2024

On April 20, 2023, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) published the first release of the DRG package for the year 2024 (RZ24a) that applies to specialist medical care and geriatric rehabilitation care. It includes twenty-three new procedure codes, nine new supplementary payments, and thirteen new DRGs.

Some examples of new procedure codes include:

  • 032489 “Diagnostic navigation bronchoscopy, including one or more test excisions, curettage and/or aspiration of material for cytological and/or pathological examination”;
  • 038645 “Meniscopexy”;
  • 037573 “Fetal therapy – intrauterine blood transfusion (IUT) or exchange transfusion (PET)”.

Nine new supplementary payments (OZPs) will be implemented, including four new OZPs for vaccination as part of specialist medical treatment, two new OZPs for donor lymphocyte infusion, and three new OZPs for plasma filtration, plasmapheresis, and low-density lipoprotein apheresis. Some examples of new OZP codes include:

  • 190593 “Medically indicated vaccinations in hematological stem cell transplantation”;
  • 191019 “LDL (low-density lipoprotein) apheresis”;
  • 191021 “Plasma filtration”.

Thirteen new DRGs will be implemented, including five new DRGs for treatment after female genital mutilation, three new DRGs for fetal therapy, three new DRGs for using active middle ear implants, and two new DRGs for kidney transplantation without nursing days. Some examples of new DRG codes include:

149399063 “Surgical intervention in status after female genital mutilation”;

159999037 “Blood transfusion or exchange transfusion in the unborn baby in the womb during pregnancy counseling”;

089999106 “Placing of implant and/or replacement of hearing aid of bone anchored or active middle ear implant and/or placing of coupling piece on the implant of bone anchored hearing aid in case of inner ear deafness”.

The effective date of the release is January 1, 2024.
