Reimbursement summary for angioplasty of arteries of lower extremities

This post presents an extract from our reimbursement analysis for angioplasty of arteries lower extremities using plain and drug-coated balloons (DCBs) for peripheral artery disease in England, France and Germany. Plain balloon angioplasty is reimbursement via DRG solely and DCBs are reimbursement via combination of DRG and add-on reimbursement.

Belgian INAMI has published updates for the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices in August

New material codes for spinal distraction system and platinum surgical sealant for contact with lung tissue were added to the List of reimbursable devices of the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI-RIZIV) in August. Codes for application of intramedullary nails were changed, and conditions of reimbursement for valvulotomy and percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage were amended.

New procedure codes and related conditions of reimbursement have been implemented for the following devices:

Spinal distraction system

  • Devices will be reimbursed via generic tariff under condition of registration in the  Nominative lists 36601 and 36602
  • The following procedure codes have been implemented:
    • 182210 – 182221 “Extendable magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors” with the tariff of €12,000;
    • 182232 – 182243 “Replacement extendable magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors” with the tariff of €12,000;
    • 182254 –  182265 “Extendable magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors, in case of early replacement” with the tariff of €12,000;
    • 182276 – 182280 “Additional magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors” with the tariff of €6,000;
    • 182291 – 182302 “Replacement extendable magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors” with the tariff of €6,000;
    • 182313 – 182324 “Replacement extendable magnetic rod for bracing to the spine by screws, hooks and/or connectors, in case of early replacement” with the tariff of €6,000.
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement of these technologies, provided in paragraphs L-§30 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices.

Surgical adhesive for internal use specifically intended for use in contact with lung tissue

  • Devices will be reimbursed via generic tariff under condition of registration in the Nominative list 32904;
  • The following material codes have been implemented:
    • 182195 – 182206 “Surgical adhesive for internal use specifically intended for use in contact with lung tissue (by intervention)” with the tariff of €518,53 (€285,19 or 55% is reimbursed by patient);
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement of these technologies, provided in paragraph K-§01 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices.

INAMI has modified procedure code 167974 - 167985 “Nail assembled centromedullary telescopic (which stretches as the bone grows)” with the tariff of €3,498. Devices will be reimbursed via generic tariff and under the condition of registration in the Nominative list 36701.

Conditions of reimbursement have been modified for the following procedures:

  • Valvulotomy in paragraph G-§08 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices;
  • Percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage in paragraph F-§23 of the List of reimbursable implants and medical devices.
