Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK) sets priorities in 2024 health reform
On October 18, 2023, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK) announced that its budget would increase by 3.9 billion to 25.8 billion euros (by 18%) in the coming year. 1.1 billion euros from the budget will be allocated for the health care reform, which will be implemented as part of the financial equalization.
The most significant part of this budget will be provided to the federal states and sickness funds to strengthen the private sector and structural reforms in hospitals. Additional funds will also be allocated for prevention programs and digitalization.
An additional 400 million euros will be allocated for care measures. This continues the improvements of the major care reform - such as higher salaries for nursing staff, training subsidies for first-time trainees and job changers, and support for caring relatives. 43.6 million euros will be assigned for the measures in 24-hour care.
