2023 DRG (LKF) model published in Austria

On September 22, 2022, the Austrian version of the DRG system (LKF) 2023 model with the relevant supplementary documents was published in Austria. The document "Changes and innovations in the 2023 LKF model" summarizes the most significant changes and innovations in the LKF model for inpatient and outpatient care. The newly added procedure codes mainly concern cardiovascular, extracorporeal treatments, and peripheral vascular fields.

For 2023, the main changes will include the addition of 34 new procedure codes (including five provisional codes), the introduction of seven procedure codes for billing in the day-case settings and one procedure code for billing in outpatient settings, and the addition of two new DRGs, update of cases flat rates, adjustments of the cases daily component calculation and re-evaluation of the length of stay indicators. The 2023 model will enter into force on January 1, 2023.

MTRC published examples of the newly introduced procedure codes and DRGs in mid-July 2022 after analyzing the draft version of the 2023 LKF model (link).

On March 2, 2023, the decision of the National Union of Health Insurance Funds relating to the update of the CCAM Nomenclature of procedure codes was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic. Changes include registration of new procedure codes, modification and removal of some existing codes. Newly introduced codes concern cardiovascular procedures, interventional radiology, orthopedics, peripheral vascular procedures, and others.

No Guidance was released for Medtech in January-February 2023.

In February 2023, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published two new Interventional Procedure Guidance (transvenous obliteration for gastric varices, biodegradable spacer to reduce rectal toxicity during radiotherapy for prostate cancer), one new Health Technology Evaluation (guided self-help digital cognitive behavioural therapy), and two new Medtech Innovation Briefings (LIVERFASt, and Ambu aScope 4 RhinoLaryngo). Also, one new clinical guideline was published, and one was updated.
