The decision regarding new CCAM procedure codes published in France
On April 8, 2025, the decision of the National Union of Health Insurance Funds on the update of the Common Classification of Medical Procedures (CCAM) was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic. The CCAM Classification serves as a reimbursement nomenclature of medical procedures. The CCAM codes are used for DRG grouping (hospital payment mechanism) and have nationally established CCAM fees, which apply to services provided by non-salaried physicians in private for-profit hospitals and outpatient specialist care.
Changes include the introduction of five new procedure codes, provisional registration of four procedure codes, modification of an existing code, and modification of an increase (“majoration”) related to public holidays.
Newly introduced procedure codes concern cardiovascular and peripheral vascular procedures, interventional radiology, ENT, and others. Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:
- DELA169 “Subcutaneous implantation of a cardiac defibrillator with retrosternal lead placement, via subxiphoid approach” with a CCAM fee of €480.35;
- EJSF400 “Radiofrequency ablation of the small saphenous vein via percutaneous endovenous approach with ultrasound guidance” with a CCAM fee of €168.68.
Four procedure codes for targeted prostate biopsies were provisionally registered in the CCAM Classification for three years.
Additionally, the indications for procedure code HLQM702 “Transcutaneous ultrasound of the liver with intravenous injection of the contrast agent” were extended.
The decision takes effect July 1, 2025. An updated version of the CCAM Nomenclature has not been published yet.
