Innovative project on carotid artery stenosis recommended for integration into standard care in Germany

In late February 2025, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the decision recommending the transfer to standard care for the completed project in the peripheral vascular field. The project was dedicated to the integration and spatial analysis of regional, site-specific, and patient-specific factors to improve the quality of care in carotid artery revascularization.

The “ISAR-IQ - Integration and Spatial Analysis of Regional, Site-Specific, and Patient-Specific Factors to Improve the Quality of Care in Carotid Artery Revascularization” project aimed to identify recommendations for enhancing the quality of care for patients requiring stenting due to carotid artery stenosis. Through its research, the project gained valuable insights into key medical, technical, and procedural factors affecting treatment outcomes.

The Innovation Committee will forward the findings to the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine (DGG) – the leading professional body responsible for medical guidelines on the treatment and aftercare of extracranial carotid stenosis. The DGG will assess the extent to which these findings can contribute to the potential refinement and further development of existing treatment guidelines.
