A total of 49 applications for innovation funding were accepted in Germany

On May 26, 2025, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) announced that 49 applications for innovation funding of healthcare research projects were accepted.

Accepted applications concerned the following topics:

  • Algorithms for health risk detection based on secondary data: 7;
  • Research for needs-based care regarding gender differences, taking into account other determinants (intersectional approach): 7;
  • Adherence in the use of digital healthcare services: 5;
  • Factors for success and failure of healthcare networks: 4;
  • Accompanying research for the introduction of the objection-based electronic patient record: 4;
  • More effective and efficient medical care through targeted use of self-exercise programs: 4;
  • Health services research on sexually transmitted infections: 3;
  • Care of patients with post-viral symptom complexes such as post-/long-COVID, myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS): 1;
  • Open topic: 14.

In total, the Innovation Committee received 249 applications for its two funding announcements (topic-specific and open-topic) of June 21, 2024. 142 of these related to the topic-specific funding announcement, and 107 to the open-topic announcement. In evaluating the applications, the Innovation Committee considered the recommendations of its advisory panel, the so-called Expert Pool.

The initial overview of the new projects is expected to be published on the Innovation Committee's website in June 2025, once the applicants have accepted the funding conditions and the decisions thus become binding.
