Implementation of the reinforced care pathways framework in France
On November 17, 2024, the Ministry of Health and Access to Care published an Order in the Official Journal of the French Republic on the support and reimbursement of reinforced care pathways. The new framework, introduced by Decree No. 2024-1035, aims to enhance the coordination and quality of care for patients with complex health needs.
Per the new framework, the healthcare professionals involved in a patient's care can develop and submit the coordinated care project to the regional health agency (ARS) and the primary health insurance fund (CPAM) via a dedicated online procedure. Only projects that meet the criteria set by the public health code and are not opposed by the ARS are eligible for reimbursement.
The reimbursement amount will be determined based on the nature and number of interventions required, including necessary equipment costs.
The framework for reinforced care pathways is a direct outcome of the experimental projects under Article 51 of the Social Security Financing Act of 2018, which aimed to innovate healthcare delivery and financing models.
