New procedure codes in Finland from January 2024

On December 19, 2023, the updated Finnish classification of procedures (THL) was published to come into force on January 1, 2024. Thirty-two new procedure codes were implemented concerning cardiovascular, endoscopy, neurology, orthopedic, and other fields. Some examples of new codes are listed below:

• JCA46  Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in the esophagus;
• JKD02 Anastomosis between the gallbladder or bile ducts and the gastrointestinal tract, guided by endoscopic ultrasound;
• TAC01 Pain management with celiac plexus block, guided by endoscopic ultrasound;
• NBB22 Reverse anatomic prosthetic replacement of shoulder;
• NFC10 Surgical treatment of infection in the hip joint prosthesis, mechanical cleaning, and debridement, deep, no replacement of loose component;
• NFB41 Total prosthetic replacement of hip joint using a hybrid technique (a cup with no cement, cemented stem).
