New research published in Value in Health gives a warning to policy-makers about potential preference traps related to conditional (innovative) payment schemes
Van de Wetering et al. published their research aiming on assessment of the value of removing previously reimbursable treatment from benefit list in comparison with adding new treatment to the list (Value Health. 2017 Jan;20(1):118-125).
Both general public and policy-makers preferred previously reimbursable treatments. It means that ending reimbursement is more difficult than starting reimbursement. Authors advice to consider this effect before engaging into conditional reimbursement schemes.
