The G-BA Innovation Committee recommends transfer to standard care for two projects in Germany

On June 30, 2023, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the decisions, recommending the transfer to standard care for two completed projects. The projects relate to the utilization of emergency care structures in Germany and implementation of patient guidelines for psychosocial therapies for patients with severe mental diseases.

“INDEED – Utilization and cross-sectoral care patterns of patients in emergency care structures in Germany” project described patterns of emergency care across multiple locations and federal states: for example, who came to the emergency room with which medical problem, whether it was a repeated contact and what previous and subsequent medical care was provided.

Within the project “IMPPETUS – Implementation of the patient guideline for psychosocial therapies for patients with severe mental diseases”, the range of care in Bavaria was recorded and checked whether it met the requirements of the S3 guideline "Psychosocial therapies for severe mental illnesses" such as schizophrenia or delusional disorders. As a central project result, it was demonstrated that structural barriers must be removed, and beneficial structures have to be built up. A discrepancy between the need for care and the possibility of covering this need became apparent.

The results of the INDEED project were forwarded to the Federal Ministry of Health with a request to check whether they can be used for legislative procedures, especially for the restructuring of emergency care. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) is asked to check whether the results can be used for health data surveillance. In addition, the project results are sent to the alliance for the improvement of communication and information technology in intensive care and emergency medicine. The alliance is asked to check whether the results can contribute to the further development of the emergency room register. For information, the project results are also sent to various emergency medicine specialist societies and to the German Network for Health Services Research.

Therefore, the IMPPETUS project results were forwarded to various psychotherapeutic specialist societies for information, as well as to the working group of scientific medical specialist societies, which is responsible for interdisciplinary medical guidelines.
