Changes in the Danish Health Care Classification System in April 2022
In mid-March 2022, the Danish Health Data Agency (Sundhedsstyrelsen) published an update of the Health Care Classification System (Sundheds-væsenets Klassifikations System, SKS). The most significant changes include: ten new diagnosis codes, two new procedure codes, and 143 additional codes (Tillægskoder) were added. The newly added procedure codes concern gastrointestinal and peripheral vascular procedures and are provided below:
- KJDD01 “Laparoscopic gastrectomy and esophagojejunostomy (Roux)”;
- KFBW96A “Implantation of wireless pressure gauge in the pulmonary circulation system”.
The Danish Health Authority updates the Health Care Classification System quarterly. It publishes the results on its website two weeks before the implementation, while the files with the changes are sent to the hospital systems.
The adjustments are subdivided into major and minor changes. Minor changes are mostly the text updates, which do not change the meaning of the term and do not require code closure. The changes are considered major if associated with implementing a new code or code closure.
