Regular update of the Norwegian Laboratory Code System released
On November 23, 2024, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system (Norsk laboratoriekodeverk 7280.74) and associated tariffs (Laboratoriekodeverk som gir rett til refusjon) for state and private laboratories to be implemented no later than January 1, 2025. NLK system is used for activity-based reimbursement by the Norwegian Health Economics Administration (Helfo) for laboratory tests performed in outpatient settings.
Thirty-two new codes were added, 29 codes were removed, and 222 codes were changed.
Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:
- NPU62989 U-hCG (urine);
- NPU62958 Sp-CEA (spinal fluid);
- NPU18741 Secr-Bordetella pertussis culture (secretions);
- NPU58464 Us-Rubella virus RNA (unspecified sample);
- NPU60925 P-Herpes simplex 2 virus DNA (plasma);
- NPU62914 Us-Candida DNA (unspecified sample);
- NPU62995 Us-Corynebacterium diphtheria culture (unspecified sample);
- NPU63016 P-Cryptococcus antigen (plasma);
- NPU62908 F-Escherichia coli (EHEC) Shiga toxin 1 DNA (feces);
- NPU63011 P-Fenfluramine (plasma).
