Regular update of the Norwegian Laboratory Code System released
In November 2023, the Norwegian Directorate of e-Health released an updated version of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system to be implemented no later than January 1, 2024. The document with the allocation of new codes to reimbursement tariffs (Laboratoriekodeverk som gir rett til refusjon) was published as well.
NLK system is used for activity-based reimbursement by the Norwegian Health Economics Administration (Helfo) for laboratory tests performed in outpatient settings.
Eighty-four new codes were added to NLK in medical biochemistry, immunology and transfusiology, clinical pharmacology, and medical microbiology fields. Some examples of the newly added codes are:
- NOR35311 Trc-Aggregation collagen-induced (high conc.) (thrombocytes);
- NOR35307 Trc-Aggregation ristocetin-induced (high conc.) (thrombocytes);
- NPU54287 P-Metalloproteinase inhibitor 1 (TIMP-1) (plasma);
- NPU62305 Pt-Liver Fibrosis (ELF);
- NPU62308 B-BAT CD63 Benzylpenicilloyl-polylysine (PPL)-induced (blood);
- NPU62290 P-Tapentadol (plasma);
- NOR35292 Us-ESBL CARBA (OXA-58) (unspecified sample);
- NOR35303 Kult-ESBL CARBA (VIM) (culture);
- NOR35315 Us-ESBL CARBA (KPC) (unspecified sample);
- NPU62298 BAL-Pneumocystis jirovecii microscopy (bronchoalveolar lavage);
- NPU59026 Us-Parasites microscopy (unspecified sample).
Furthermore, 77 codes were amended, and 32 codes were terminated.
