Open calls for input within the “New Methods” framework in Norway

Norway has a national system for the introduction of new health technologies within the specialist health service (“New Methods” framework) through either a national or hospital-based health technology assessment. This framework is mandatory for all innovations before being funded.

The framework is a staged process. At the initial (proposal) stage, Ordering Forum for the “New Methods” accepts suggestions for new technologies, procedures, and diagnostics and decides whether they will undergo evaluation at the national level. Before the Ordering Forum meetings, there is an opportunity for anyone to input information regarding proposed technologies.

Ordering Forum scheduled for March 20, 2023, invited interested parties to submit information regarding the following technologies (before March 07, 2023):

  • Epidural spinal cord stimulation for the treatment of chronic radicular lower back pain;
  • Digital chest drain with a built-in monitoring system for use in and outside hospitals (e.g., Thopaz+).

Ordering Forum scheduled for April 24, 2023, invited interested parties to submit information regarding the following technologies (before April 11, 2023):

  • Magnetic catheters with radiofrequency (e.g., WavelinQ AVF system) for the creation of endovascular arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis in chronic renal failure;
  • Deep brain stimulation in therapy-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder.
