NICE is updating the methods and processes related to technology appraisals

NICE is currently updating the methods and processes to include NICE technology appraisal (TA) recommendations in the clinical guidelines. The expected publication date is not defined.

On February 5, 2024, NICE published a draft guidance for consultation.

Currently, NICE's guidance is published according to the program that developed it. This means that users can find it harder to access and navigate all NICE recommendations about a condition because they must search in multiple places to find them.

NICE proposes two approaches for including NICE TA recommendations in guideline topic areas:

  • Incorporating by rapidly presenting newly published unchanged TA recommendations in the guideline;
  • Integrating TA recommendations by analyzing and comparing all treatment options for a specific clinical area. This will ensure that the most clinically and cost-effective options are recommended at each stage.

The deadline for submitting comments is March 15, 2024.
