The G-BA Innovation Committee published funding priorities for new forms of care projects in Germany
On January 24, 2025, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the determined funding priorities for projects on new forms of care (for single-stage process – open topic and for two-stage process – nine topics).
For a single-stage funding procedure (open topic), a distinction is made between a single-stage, short-term funding procedure (project duration up to 24 months) and a single-stage, long-term funding procedure (project duration usually from 36 up to 48 months):
- Those interested in the single-stage, long-term funding procedure can apply until May 6, 2025. The Innovation Committee is expected to decide on the applications in the fourth quarter of 2025;
- Those interested in the single-stage, short-term procedure can submit their applications on an ongoing basis - the Innovation Committee will decide on funding at regular intervals until the funds available within this procedure in the respective financial year (20 million euros) have been exhausted.
The topic-specific funding announcement in the two-stage procedure includes the following topics on new forms of care:
- Women’s health;
- Integration of artificial intelligence (AI) systems into care structures and processes;
- Dementia in outpatient care;
- Multimodal pain therapy in outpatient care;
- Strengthening child and adolescent health.
Applications for project funding that cannot be assigned to any of the topic areas can be submitted via the open-topic funding announcement.
Those interested in the two-stage procedure can apply with an idea sketch by April 15, 2025. The idea sketch should present the essential content of the planned new form of care. The Innovation Committee is expected to decide in the fourth quarter of 2025 which idea sketches will be selected to develop a full application. The concept development phase will be funded for up to six months with a funding amount of up to €75,000.
The project management agency German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) is offering an information event for those interested in funding. The focus is on the requirements for the applications. The approximately one-hour web seminar will take place on February 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. Registration is not required.
