Funding of 500 million DKK for home treatment with digital solutions in Denmark
In December 2023, the Government, Danish Regions, and Municipalities (KL) signed an agreement providing 500 million DKK from 2023 to 2028 to support digital home treatment in the healthcare system.
Funding will support the following five targets:
- The number of physical checks at hospitals for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, and heart failure will be reduced by half as the result of switching to continuous digital monitoring in their own homes and virtual contacts;
- The number of digital courses for people with mental unhappiness will be doubled;
- Patients in all municipalities will be offered digital rehabilitation courses and digital screen visits in nursing
- Video consultations continue to spread in general practice, and the proportion of total consultations increases year by year in the period.
The agreement confirms funding for the trial scheme for type 2 diabetes in 2024-2026, in which selected patients (up to 4,400) will be offered sensor-based glucose monitoring (CGM/FGM). Furthermore, in 2025, up to 1,400 COPD patients will be provided non-invasive ventilation (NIV) at home.
