Four more health apps obtained reimbursement in Germany
Between early September 2023 and mid-January 2024, four more health apps were introduced in the Directory of digital health applications (DiGAs) at the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and thus became reimbursable. These apps can be prescribed by physicians and psychotherapists and will be reimbursed by health insurers. In total, 53 health apps are currently available in the DiGA Directory, and six health apps were delisted from the Directory.
On December 11, 2023, the “Mindable: Soziale Phobie” health app was introduced in the Directory. “Mindable: Soziale Phobie”, developed by Mindable Health GmbH, Germany, is aimed at people aged 18 and over who suffer from the symptoms of social phobia. The application supports users in managing and reducing their social anxiety. The app teaches established, relevant content, methods, and effective exercises from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). This includes, among other things, psychoeducational content, the development of an individual disorder model, attention training, and experience-oriented dealing with social fears using exercises and behavioral experiments. In addition, users can regularly record and export anxiety-related symptoms, events, and behavior. The app is available in German, English, and French with a tariff of €765.
“Untire®”, developed by Tired of Cancer B.V., Netherlands, was introduced in the Directory on On December 25, 2023. It is an evidence-based digital health application specifically designed to reduce fatigue in breast cancer patients and survivors. The app integrates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), psychoeducation, and mindfulness-based exercises. In addition, specific movement exercises that help increase physical activity are included. This holistic approach gives patients access to a comprehensive range of effective strategies for coping with fatigue. “Untire®” includes regular self-assessments of disease-relevant parameters, which not only serve to pursue personal goals but also offer valuable insights into the progression of symptoms. The app is available in German, English, and Dutch with a tariff of €618.
On December 30, 2023, the “actensio” health app was introduced in the Directory. “actensio”, developed by mementor DE GmbH, Germany, is a digital application for treating hypertension. The app conveys evidence-based and guideline-compliant content from the area of lifestyle intervention. In addition to psychoeducational knowledge transfer, users learn to change their eating habits, gradually integrate more exercise into their everyday lives, and improve their stress management. The app is available in German with a tariff of €593.81.
The health app “glucura Diabetestherapie” (Perfood GmbH, Germany) was introduced on January 11, 2024, and was developed for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus. Over three months, personalized nutritional adjustments and established approaches to lifestyle modification are carried out in small steps by users to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. The app supports the reduction of postprandial glucose variability as well as body weight and long-term blood sugar (HbA1c). “glucura Diabetestherapie” is compatible with various blood sugar sensors. The only requirement is that they meet the criteria for compatibility of data export from CGM systems. The app is available in German with a tariff of €499.80.
