Reimbursement summary for angioplasty of arteries of lower extremities

This post presents an extract from our reimbursement analysis for angioplasty of arteries lower extremities using plain and drug-coated balloons (DCBs) for peripheral artery disease in England, France and Germany. The first release of the DRG package for 2026 was published in the Netherlands

On May 01, 2025, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) published the first release of the 2026 DRG package (RZ26a) that applies to specialist medical care and geriatric rehabilitation care. Three new procedure codes, seven new supplementary payments (OZPs), one new diagnosis code, and two new DRGs will be implemented. The other changes include technical changes and tariff updates. 

In the Med Tech-related field, one new procedure code 030163 “Intracranial ablation with high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) under MRI guidance” was introduced.

Among seven supplementary payments (OZPs), three OZPs concern Med Tech-related technologies:

  • 191179 ”Cryopreservation or thawing of own ovarian tissue for own use for a medical indication, including intake (optional) and examination”;
  • 191180 “Storage of frozen own ovarian tissue for own use for a medical indication, per year”;
  • 191148 “Molecular research into pathogenic inherited or de novo mutations in the entire genome, per person examined”.

Two new DRGs will be implemented:

  • 972802129 “Treating brain tissue with intensive high-frequency sound waves in the case of a brain disorder” for the treatment of essential tremor by intracranial ablation with HIFU;
  • 099899125 “Implantation of pulmonary artery pressure monitor”.

Furthermore, a new diagnosis code 387 “Percutaneous needle fasciotomy” under medical specialty 0304 “Plastic surgery” will be implemented to encourage the appropriate DRG allocation for procedures provided by plastic surgeons for the treatment of Dupuytren's disease.

The effective date of the release is January 1, 2026.
