Dutch Healthcare Authority published 2024 update of the Digital Care Funding Guide
On November 08, 2023, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) published the updated “2024 Digital Care Funding Guide”. This Guide has been published by the NZa since 2020. It explains the possibilities in the funding of digital care depending on the healthcare sector (primary care, medical specialist care, long-term care, etc.).
One of the key objectives of the NZa is to encourage appropriate digital care as an integral part of appropriate care. Since 2023, the new transformation funds within the Integral Care Agreements (Integraal Zorgakkoord) have been implemented: healthcare providers can claim transformation funds by indicating in a transformation plan how they want to contribute to the transformation towards appropriate care, accessibility of care, regional cooperation, or other objectives of the Integral Care Agreements, including digital care. A transformation plan is assessed by the two largest health insurers in the region. Payment of the transformation funds is linked to the achievement of the agreed results and is monitored by the same two health insurers. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport made €2.8 billion available for transformation funds to make the transformation plans possible.
