Creation of the Advisory Committee in the genetics field in Spain

On June 19, 2024, the Order SND/606/2024, of June 13, came into force. This Order, among other things, creates the Advisory Committee for the Common Package of Benefits in the Area of Genetics.

This Advisory Committee will have the purpose of coordinating the actions and monitoring of the Common Package of Benefits in the genetics area. Some of the functions of the Advisory Committee include (but not limited to):

  • To propose the development of a common package of services for genetic disorders and diseases, including the catalog, as well as its updating in accordance with current regulations;
  • To advise on the strategy of genetic and genomic studies;
  • To propose the common minimum requirements that genetic or genomic tests must meet, aimed at guaranteeing the quality of this service;
  • To propose common criteria for the preparation of the corresponding genetics catalogs by the Autonomous Communities, the National Institute of Health Management, and the mutual societies of civil servants in their respective areas of management;
  • To propose and coordinate the information system that allows the monitoring of this package of services, including its implementation in the National Health System;
  • To serve as a permanent channel for collaboration, communication, and information between the different Health Services of the Autonomous Communities, the General State Administration, and other agents involved in the management of this package.
